Optimizing images in memboGo
Whether it’s an event, your newsletter or your website, adding images is always a good idea. Images have the ability to capture your reader’s attention, present your initiatives in a compelling way and improve your website’s SEO. All the more reason to pay close attention to how you use images in memboGo's applications.
Here are our tips for making the best use of images in memboGo.
1- Image format
For simple images with just a few different colors (for example, a logo), GIF or PNG format is ideal.
However, with detailed images (photos or screenshots, for example), JPG format is smaller.
Why is the image format important? The image format has a direct impact on the amount of time it takes to download your newsletter or website which consequently affects your reader's comfort level as well as your site's SEO (shorter download time = better SEO score).
2- Image dimensions
Avoid using images that are too large. The maximum width for newsletters is 700px for an image area and 660px for a content area. An image that is too large will be deformed and won’t display properly in emails.
To save you time, memboGo directly integrates images into your website from your events (from the Events application), members (Members application) and news (Website application). It is therefore important to ensure that you’re using a resolution, format and style that are appropriate for the images that are already on your website. The idea is to make sure that there is visual harmony throughout your website.
3- File names
For your newsletter: Avoid spaces and special characters. An image that contains spaces and special characters will not display correctly in Outlook and certain versions of Gmail because they are often blocked by security and anti-spam systems.
For your website: Browsers now support images with special characters but the file management system may be problematic. In addition, it is good for your SEO to name your image with key words that speak to your audience. For example, in this article, an image could be called “optimization-images-membogo.”
4- File location
When you would like to add an image to your website, you must first add it to our server so that it is available everywhere on the web. To do so, you must use the image manager. Here's a trick to ensure that the image always displays quickly: Categorize your images into specific subfolders! Just right-click on the general folder to create subfolders.
5- Sharing on social media
When you share your newsletter or a page from your website on social media, the social media network automatically takes an image with the link. Unfortunately, it's sometimes not the best image that's shared.
To ensure that the right image displays in your post:
- Configure your newsletter by adding the image of your choice in the Social Networks Integration section (above the area where you edit your newsletter content). The minimum size is 200 x 200px.
- If you plan to share a specific page from your website, be sure that you add an image in the content. This is the image that will be given top priority.
6- Bonus: Add an animated GIF
Did you know you can add GIFs to your newsletters? All you have to do is upload a GIF as an image.
However, be aware that Microsoft Outlook will not display the animation. To accommodate your subscribers who use Outlook, ensure that the first image from your animation contains the most crucial elements since that's the one that will be displayed.
